When Mamadou "Sav" Savane opened his restaurant - Sav's Grill, serving West African cuisine - he knew he wanted to satisfy his customers' sweet tooth as well as their penchant for his delectable West African sauces. He found a local ice cream producer and offered a few flavors in his restaurant. Then an opportunity arose for him to open an ice cream shop across the street from the restaurant, serving up even more flavors of the ice cream his customers had grown to love. A couple of years later, through a variety of circumstances, he was offered the chance to buy the ice cream business from the local producer. Sav's son, Bangaly Savane, quickly picked up on the technique for creating the wonderful gourmet flavors and now he keeps things churning at the wildly popular shop on South Limestone. In 2015, the addition of the Sav's Chill Wagon food truck brought their gourmet flavors into other Lexington venues such as Woodland Art Fair, Crave Lexington and Keeneland. And now you can even find pints and half-pints of Sav's Chill at other local retailers, and on and on it goes! These pictures may be worth a thousand words but nothing takes the place of tasting the creamy goodness for yourself. Come on in and give us a try!
